Environment, Ecosystem and Forestry Expert
Mr. Laxmi Dutt Bhatta is a distinguished environmental scientist and ecosystem specialist with over two decades of international experience in natural resource management, ecosystem conservation, climate adaptation, forestry governance, and sustainable development. He has held senior specialist, managerial, and advisory roles with leading organizations such as ICIMOD, SNV, The Mountain Institute, and UNDP, contributing to impactful environmental and climate initiatives across Asia.
His professional journey spans Nepal, Bhutan, India, Pakistan, Myanmar, Singapore, China, and includes assignments in Vietnam, Cambodia, and Lao PDR. Mr. Bhatta’s work focuses on ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA), biodiversity conservation, payment for ecosystem services (PES), and integrating livelihood priorities with conservation goals.
With extensive experience in multi-stakeholder and multicultural settings, he has successfully managed multi-country projects and facilitated international conferences, symposiums, and workshops. As a visiting faculty and senior researcher at Tribhuvan University, he teaches and supervises BSc and MSc students in environmental and mountain studies while mentoring emerging leaders.
A prolific author, Mr. Bhatta has published numerous journal articles, book chapters, working papers, and policy briefs, contributing to global discussions on sustainability and climate resilience.
