Biography

Dr. Manoj Shakya is a senior academic and researcher specializing in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, and Digital Public Infrastructure, with over 24 years of experience in higher education, research leadership, and capacity building. He holds a PhD in Artificial Intelligence from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, earned under a competitive SINGA scholarship.

He currently serves in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Kathmandu University and previously served as the Head of the Department of Artificial Intelligence, providing academic and administrative leadership in program development, curriculum design, and research supervision. His academic interests include applied AI, data-driven decision-making, AI in education, and responsible AI adoption, with a strong focus on national development.

Dr. Shakya is a frequent speaker and resource person in workshops, training programs, and policy-oriented discussions on AI and digital transformation. He actively contributes to national-level dialogues on AI policy, digital governance, and higher education reform, and regularly moderates panels involving academia, industry, and government stakeholders.

He is an active member of IEEE and the Nepal Research and Education Network (NREN) and serves as a Technical Program Committee member and reviewer for international conferences. His work emphasizes building ethical, inclusive, and sustainable AI ecosystems, particularly in developing-country contexts.
